End of the season race and potluck March 29!

March 26, 2015 by stabbert

Join us for the Alaska Skijoring and Pulk Association annual spring membership meeting, pizza potluck party and fun race scheduled for Sunday, March 29, at
the ADMA Mushers Hall! All ASPA volunteers for this season will be honored, celebrated and thanked! The Volunteer of the Year Award will also be presented.

Our race directors will be Andy Warwick and Pat DeRuyter. Race day registration will be at 10am. The Fun Race will begin at 11:00am.

The race will include distances of 6.2, 4.8, 3.7, 2.0 and 1 mile depending on trail conditions and participant interest. There will be a 1 mile Le Mans start event at approximately 11:45am. Pat DeRuyter and Andy have agreed to do registration and be the starters, but we need more race volunteers to help with registration and handling. To pre-register for the Fun Race or volunteer, contact Andy Warwick at warwick@gci.net.

The cost is $10 for ASPA members and $15 for non-members. Membership forms are available and we encourage anyone interested in skijoring to join us for the race and pizza party.

The fun race will be followed by a pizza potluck party which will begin about noon, and then by a short membership meeting. ASPA will provide the pizza and drinks. Please bring a side dish to share.

Hope to see you there!

Trail Tour Sunday March 15

March 11, 2015 by stabbert

This trail tour will be on the trails on the west side of Ballaine (i.e. those bounded by Goldstream, Ballaine and Sheep Creek) – meet at the end of O’Brien Road a bit before 1:00 PM. My personal cut off for this trail tour is 0 degrees at the airport at 11 AM (as I am tired of winter) – check this page or the list serve for updates.

O’Brien the first left hand turn AFTER Ivory Jack’s, if you are coming from the Ballaine and Goldstream intersections. The Goldstream Lions’ softball fields are on the corner of O’Brien. Take O’Brien all the way to its end – there is a good cul de sac with room for several vehicles.

Note that Goldstream trails are multi-use and expect to encounter everything from moose, snow machiners, dog teams, fat-tire bikers etc. Trails may be somewhat narrow due the recent snow, however generally they are easily ski-jored with skate skis. Route will be generally flat and most of it will be an out and back, with a few variations on the way back to mix it up a bit. It is suitable for beginner ski jorers.
