Final Virtual Races: #5 and #6!

April 13, 2021 by Don Kiely

Thanks all for being so patient waiting for the final races of the series. With the fast change in weather we’re deciding to announce race 5 and 6 all at once.

Starting immediately a 4.75 mile loop has been made off of Iniakuk Ave. To access the course follow Iniakuk off of Farmer’s Loop to Henrik Court. Park in the circle without blocking driveways. The course will be marked with lime green/yellow survey flags (these will always be on your left) . Take the trail out and take the first left. Follow it around until you see the ADMA 19.8 turnoff. Keep following that trail around until the next major junction and take the right hand turn (turn offs ~2.5 and 3 miles: look for the flags guiding you into these turns.) This turn is the one that wasn’t groomed at all on Sunday though so that’s the only part that could be tricky as it is more narrow. Follow around back to the start (make sure to keep the flags on your left.)

Sign up for race 5.

Report your results (race #5 Iniakuk Loop).

The 6th and final race will be set up Saturday morning at Creamer’s Field. We’ve decided to make this one a Covid-friendly in-person event beginning at the farmhouse at 11am on a freshly groomed course, however, I will leave the course set-up until Sunday for anyone who can’t make that time or prefers the virtual option. This will be an out and back course for a total of ~6 miles. Course map to be sent out later this week! Anyone can attend, however, to be timed you will need to fill out the consent/sign-up form prior to arrival and only participants that have signed up for the virtual series will get credit towards the race series prizes.

Sign up for race 6.

Report your results (race #6 Creamer’s field).

Results for both races will be due by 11:59pm on 4/18/21.

Hope to see everyone Saturday morning and enjoy the last of this season’s trails!

Virtual Race #4: Isberg

March 8, 2021 by Don Kiely

The 4th (of 6 if weather permits) will take place at a new course: Isberg trails! The course is a 2.5 mile loop starting and finishing at the parking area on Oboe Court. The course is marked with pink pin flags and orange arrows. From the start line the course runs along a straight, gradual downhill section of trail for 1 mile. There is then a sharp right hand turn onto the powerline trail. This section of trail starts gradual downhill followed by some climbing including one very steep section. Follow this trail until making a right hand turn at the power line T junction and heading downhill towards the finish. This race will run immediately through 3/14/2021, however, the course may not be kept after 3/13/2021 so get out before the cold kicks in!

Step 1: If you haven’t already signed up for the series by purchasing a membership and 2021 Virtual race fees head to the ASPA Store to purchase both (if you have already paid for a membership and race fees you do not need to purchase these again for the remainder of the series.)

Step 2: Once you have paid complete the pre-race waiver PRIOR to racing!

Step 3: Race the course as many times as you would like.

Step 4: After you complete the course submit your results prior to 11:59pm on 2/21/2021 here.

Step 5: Share with friends and family who might be interested!

Good luck and happy trails!

Virtual Race #3: Creamer’s Field, Round 2

February 13, 2021 by Don Kiely

The next race in the Virtual Race Series will be a bit longer than the first races, giving dogs that have more endurance than speed some time to shine. This race will start and end at the same location as the first race at Creamer’s Field. Follow the green arrows and signs for a total of 6 miles. Complete the course anytime between 2/15/21 and 2/21/21.

Step 1: If you haven’t already signed up for the series by purchasing a membership and 2021 Virtual race fees head to the ASPA Store to purchase both (if you have already paid for a membership and race fees you do not need to purchase these again for the remainder of the series.)

Step 2: Once you have paid, complete the pre-race waiver PRIOR to racing.

Step 3: Race the course as many times as you like.

Step 4: After you complete the course submit your results prior to 11:59pm on 2/21/21.

Step 5: Share with friends and family who might be interested!

Good luck and happy trails!

Virtual Race #2: Ski Boot Hill

February 1, 2021 by Don Kiely

The virtual race series continues onto its first new course: Ski Boot Hill! This course is fast but with the snow and slightly lower temps can still be exciting for new skijorers as well as provide some thrill for the seasoned racers in the group. This race will begin on 2/1/2021 and run through 2/5/2021.

Step 1: If you haven’t already signed up for the series by purchasing a membership and 2021 Virtual race fees head to the ASPA store to purchase both (if you have already paid for a membership and race fees you do not need to purchase these again for the remainder of the series.)

Step 2: Once you have paid complete the pre-race waiver PRIOR to racing.

Step 3: Race the course as many times as you would like.

Step 4: After you complete the course submit your results prior to 11:59pm on 2/7/21.

Parking is located at the top of Ski Boot Hill by the radio towers. The course will be marked with orange spray paint: “S” to start, arrows for the right branch at the Goldstream Connector sign, “Turn” at the turn around at the top of the hill where there are posts in front of the road, and “F” for finish, for a round trip distance of 2.5 miles. See the map images below for additional instructions as this course does feature some elevation changes.

Have fun and stay warm!

Virtual Race Series 2021

January 26, 2021 by Don Kiely

Welcome, all, to the first of the Alaska Skijoring and Pulk Association’s virtual race series!  The first race is lined up for Creamer’s Field from 1/22/21 to 1/31/2021 and promises to be fast (and fun).  To sign up for the series please head to the Alaska Skijoring and Pulk Association Store and purchase both a membership and race entry fees. (Both are required to qualify for placement and participation prizes: race entry fees allow entry into the entire series and only needs to be purchased once.)

Once you’ve submitted fees head to the entry form to complete your entry PRIOR to racing.  After you have completed the course (as many times as you would like) submit your results at the results form prior to 11:59pm on 1/31/2021.

Compete for series points to win top prizes in the 1 and 2 dog classes for both male and female or come out and participate for 1 entry (per race) into the end of the season drawing.  See the attached flyer and course map to look over prior to racing (click on either for the full-size version).

Happy trails and look forward to the announcement of our next race on the all new course: Ski Boot Hill!
