Looks like cold is in the forecast for the weekend so it seems like the hills are our best bet for a trail tour. This Sunday we’ll meet at the Waterford trailhead at 1 pm. To find this trail, take Goldstream to Waterford Road. If you are coming from Ballaine road, it is about a mile past the fire station; turn left. From the Steese it’s about 2 miles from the transfer station. Take the road up the hill to a parking area just around the corner where Waterford meets Molly Road. (Don’t park right at the trailhead.)
The trail is a gradual and not-so-gradual climb up to the pipeline. From there we can either ski the pipeline, take a run down Eldorado Creek trail, or head up some of the mushing trails that parallel Old Murphy Dome Road. This will be an out-and-back trip. It is a good trail for one dog or a mellow two dog team, and you’ll be equally unhappy at times with either classic or skate skis. There will be hills.
Trail tours are free to ASPA members and $5 for non members. If you have not renewed your membership this year, (like me!) it’s time to do that.
I’m setting the cutoff a little lower than usual as we’ll be in higher ground – if it’s -15 at the airport at 11:30 (call 458-3745 ext 1113) we will cancel.
