Olnes Pond trail tour Sunday

February 28, 2014 by janna

Come out to Olnes Pond and have some fun while working on your spring face tan. Our goal is a small pond about seven miles in. Bring a snack to share if you like and we’ll have a quick picnic to enjoy the beautiful afternoon and warm weather before turning around.

To get there, turn left to Olnes Pond at MP 10.5 (or so) of the Elliott Hwy, just before the bridge. Continue down the road one mile to its end at the gate. Please be ready to head out at 1 pm.

ASPA members free; nonmembers $5. Membership forms will be available. If it is colder than -10 degrees at 11:30 am (call 458-3745 ext 1113), the event will be canceled.

For more information on the trail tour, contact Janna Miller at 479-5585 or janna@alaska.net.

Feb 2 trail tour canceled

January 31, 2014 by janna

This weekend’s trail tour is canceled due to unsavory trail conditions. The only ground I would consider covering right now is something flat that’s been worked by a groomer. However, two scouting visits to Chena Lakes this week were quickly aborted. It’s just too hazardous to advocate a group activity.

Rosie Creek trail tour January 5

January 3, 2014 by janna

Join us this Sunday at 1 pm to explore Rosie Creek trails. We’ll tour predominantly flatlands on snowmachine-groomed trails suitable for one- or two-dog teams and narrow skate skiing. It’s an out-and-back route; we’ll plan for an hour but can go as far as you like.

ASPA members free; nonmembers $5. Membership forms available on site. Minimum is -10 degrees at 11:30 am (call 458-3745 ext 1113).

To reach the trailhead, turn left onto Cripple Creek Road off the Parks Hwy (a mile or two past Ester).  Take the first right after the yellow diamond-shaped “pavement ends” sign onto Rosie Creek Trail.  The trailhead is on the right 1.1 miles in.  Park on the side of the road.  We head down the trail at 1 pm.

For more information on the trail tour, contact Janna Miller at 479-5585 or janna@alaska.net.

Trail tour in Goldstream Valley this Sunday

December 12, 2013 by janna

Join us this Sunday, December 15 at 1 pm to explore the Goldstream Valley trails. A trail tour is non-competitive and highly social with emphasis on fun.

This tour will be on level ground – no hills. It’s wide enough for a narrow skate ski with no classic tracks.

ASPA members free; nonmembers $5. Membership forms available on site. Minimum temperature is -10 degrees at 11:30 am (call 458-3745 ext 1113).

Park at the large pullout north of the Ballaine Road summit. Please be ready to head down the trail by 1 pm.

Contact Janna Miller at 479-5585 or janna@alaska.net for more info. Trail tours are planned for most weekends throughout the winter; check Facebook, e-mail, www.alaskaskijoring.org or the hotline (457-5456) for details.
